Salty and Bright

Hello! So as you know, our blog is called living salty and bright. Why is that? Because we are called to be the salt and light of the earth. That never really hit me hard until a couple days ago. I was at church and an older man brought a water bottle filled with water from the Dead Sea. He looked at me and said “stick your finger in that”. So he opened the lid and I stuck my finger in it. At first it felt like normal water. But when I pulled my hand away, and rubbed my fingers together, the water wouldn’t go away. It almost had an oily feel to it. I was honestly amazed by it, because after about 5-10 minutes the water was still on my hand. So I began to wonder, what’s so special about this water. Well after doing some research, I saw this... The water in the Dead Sea is completely different than all other water in other bodies of water. The Dead Sea is 9.6 times more saltier than our coast around the United States! So when people go visit the Dead Sea in Asia, they almost cannot help but float. The Dead Sea is rich in minerals that are so good for the body. Not only is that all amazing, but it’s banks are the lowest points on dry land. So what does this have to do with anything? Well, the Bible says this... 13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. BE THE LIGHT! Jesus is saying this in Matthew 5 to his disciples. YOU are called out, called out to be a city upon a hill! A city that is seen by EVERYONE! BE THE SALT! The salt like that in the Dead Sea! The salt that is filled with flavor by the savior! Jesus said we are good for nothing if we loose our savior as salt. So express it! Be the one you are supposed to be. Be like the water of the Deep Sea! Humble yourself as the lowest on earth but still hold people up. Be rich in all that is good, so that people want the richness you have. Be as something that has a lasting effect such as the water of the Deep Sea. It wouldn’t leave my hand. It had a lasting effect. Why are you looking for a purpose? Because God gave you one. He wants us to be like salt and light. Somebody, somewhere, is depending on you to do what God has called you to do. Don’t be afraid to do it. With much love, Kaitlin
